Weekly Reflections
Below are my weekly reflections on the chapters, articles, videos, etc.
This week chapters were the most interesting to me so far. I think ethics play an important role in the success of a company or organization. I have always been a rule follower and a heavy believer on karma. I feel like if you do good, good will follow. Putting negative energy into a situation may only lead to a lack of confidence and success within a company. I have been a giver when it comes to my work ethic and recently I feel like it can be more tiring than being a taker. Sometimes when you are a giver, those who are takers will take and take until you feel like you can’t give anymore. The lady I used to nanny for did this more often than she should and I got to a point where I didn’t want to go the extra mile for her because it was not being appreciated. She started to just expect me to just do things because I set the standards so high from the start which leaves me now burnt out. I think being a giver and taker at the same time can be more beneficial for someone than just being on or the other.

The topic of communication and gossip was ironic to me in these chapters. I was just contemplating how to reduce gossip in the workplace. My new job is my first time in a business and it is mind-blowing the gossip that is already present. Some of the behaviors that have been shown, I do not know how have been tolerated because of how unprofessional it can be and how it could impact customers coming in. I feel like some older manager, like mine, do not have the energy or feel the need to tell grown adults to stop spreading rumors or gossiping about one another. I think confronting people would help eliminate but then again I'm curious as to how to reduce drama in the workplace.
